Sorry for being a bit "SLO" with checking in this month; been lots going on (home projects & work, mostly).  Methinks we'll go for a slightly different twist starting this month.  In times gone by this page was almost exclusively devoted to tourney results, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.  However, this is a "NOTES & NEWS" page, hence we'll expand on it a tad to make it just that.  So stay tuned for more "up close and personal" happenings on TEAM SLO!!

JUNE  HIGHLIGHTS

June 23, 2001- Well fellow Zonesters, this will be the last entry on our N & N page til July 3rd, which is when I return from vacation.  However, feel free to trip down memory lane by exploring some of the highlights of days gone by using the links located to the left under "SLO Archives".  Some of you will be taking it all in for the very first time, while others will simply relive it all over again.  Either way it's time well spent, so go for it!

With that said, I'm outta here people.  But hey...all eyez on TEAM SLO as we head into the month of July!  Make no mistake, we'll be out there doing it up, better than ever - no bout a doubt it!  Take care all, and I'll see ya next month!!! J

Whoops - almost forgot: I'll be setting up a TEAM SLO late night race/rumble function (tentatively on the 14th of July) upon my return, so stay tuned for more information!!

ATTENTION PLEASE

June 19, 2001- Forget trying to be like The SuperStar, and who cares about some raving Maniac who seems to JUMP or SCAT at the first sign of trouble...and what exactly is a NANOO, anyway?  I certainly can't answer that, but I know this:  SLO now has a couple of new superheroes, and they came to us in a package deal.  These two brothers have just made their mark of distinction by forging their place in SLO history as members of one of the few teams out here who's doing it to it on both sides of this game.  Two tourneys were held on this day; one R&R (no, not “rest and relaxation” – it stands for “race and rumble”) as they are now called according to The SuperStar, and the other was a 1-on-1 rumble.  Would you believe we came out on top in both events?  Yep, that’s what I said  - checkout the particulars:

Undoubtedly my man GB was in top form for this one, laying waste to everyone in his path on his journey to the finals during this hard-fought, slug-o-rama, where he took out AMF_ViPsTeR and claimed the no. 1 spot!!!  This marks his very first tourney win, and all I can say is I’m glad he did it wearing SLO!!  How bout a standing ovation for SLO_GutterboyMG on his tourney victory!!  Excellent job, bud!!!!

Next up was his younger brother, SLO_PreACheR_MG, who joined forces with The SuperStar in a race-rumble event.  Believe me when I say these things are an absolute blast to run!  For this one, however, they did it on "Crazy 98"; N8 blocked while Preach raced (good thing too; Preach sucks at blocking—I know!).  In the end it was SLO_PreACheR_MG and SLO_N8 taking it ALL!!!!  Hey, we did one standing-O; why not throw in another, cause like his big brother, this was Preach’s first tourney win as well!!!

Last, but certainly not least, "SCAT-ATTACK" made headlines as he teamed with ZO_Thrasher_MG to tie for 3rd place!!  Not sure what happened to this guy (SCAT), but his name is sure on this page a lot lately.  Once again...heck of a job out there, SCAT!!!  Hey man...can I have your autograph?  Hehehe

A BIG congrats to GB and Preach for achieving such a grand accomplishment – the entire team applauds you!!!  Also congrats to The SuperStar, who seems to be using all the rumbling skills Maniac and NANOO taught him to rack up these tourney wins.  Didn’t think he was paying attention.  Hehehe - way to go, you guys!!

June 18, 2001- This is a little out of the ordinary, but I have two things I want to "advertise" here.  Nope, no money is required for purchase, nor will you be asked to give up your first born in exchange for receiving this "stuff" I'm about to put on display.  All that's required is your willingness to sample it - that's all!

The track is called "Scat's Canyon", and its author is SLO_PreACheR_MG.  Definitely take this one for a few spins; it's a very good track which is sure to make SLO's next APL update (due October 1, btw)!  He included a readme file with this track, however, what you won't find by browsing the text file is that it's named after SLO_SCAT - a tribute to him, in a way.  A very nice gesture, Preach.  Certainly no one can accuse you of sucking up since you were already on the team when you chose its name, so we'll take it as a token of your inherent generosity.  Hehe--nicely done, bud!  : )

Next up is a track by a new bud of mine who goes by the name, GYMMY, and his "product" is  entitled, "Tracks & Trucks 2".  He invited me to beta test it (mind you, he's brand new to the track making business), and I must say, I was extremely impressed with his work!  The uniqueness and originality of this track is what drew me in, and it's simply a blast to run, especially in a one-on-one format.  But don't take my word for it; see for yourself!

June 17, 2001- Well, I tried to hold off until I got all the info, but I'm not sure when ZO is going to update their page.  Besides, I have the data that truly counts, so hey--I'm pressing on with this post!

It was a 10 laps on a track called "Poconos", and it was by way of a ZO sponsored gig that I'm sure drew quite a crowd.  This NASCAR wave seems to have caught on, and looks to be around for a while.  I don't know who all was in attendance, but what I can tell you is that our very own SLO_PreACheR (Hey, what's with those upper/lower case letters in your name, fella?  What the heck is that all about?) distinguished himself by securing the 3rd place podium position for this one!  Preach, outstanding job bud--very impressive results!!  Keep this up and who knows...you may be in the running for Racer of the Month next time around.  Course, earning such an honor requires that you make a $600.00 donation to my favorite charity (Cope's Fridge), but hey...I think that's a small price to pay for such a prestigious, highly sought after honor.  Hehe--once again, BIG congrats to you, partner!!  Way to go!!!

June 17, 2001- JDAK: The name conjures up thoughts of a detective, superhero type, prime time t.v. character who ALWAYS gets the bad guy.  Ok maybe that's just me, but in truth, his name is derived from the first letters of his wife's, his two children, and his name.  Rather unique, no?  And it sounds so damn cool, too!!  Hehe

Well, he's a United States fighting man (Army), hence he goes where the Department of Defense determines he's needed...or in this case, whichever assignment he's worked to get a shot at.  According to him, this is the one he wanted...so he's headed to Alaska!  As a tribute to him, SLO got together for a "Farewell For Now" function in his honor.  Gracing the tracks were Weeedeee, SCAT, PreACheR, LS6c_Pooh, N8, Gutterboy, Christy, Jumper, and myself (COPE).  Oh, and JDAK was there too, but can you believe that bum was almost two hours late for his own party!!  Nevertheless, the event was fun-filled, as we raced, rumbled, did a few "race-rumble" sessions (those are a blast!!)  He'll be back running with the gang in a few months, but we certainly wanted to send this guy off with some form of celebration.

In my opinion he's the ultimate team player, and is always willing to do whatever it takes for the betterment of SLO.  We all love this team, but as one of the four original members, his commitment and ties to this organization run pretty deep, hence he's pro SLO thru and thru (has 10 sets of pajamas with "SLO RULES" stenciled on the butt--hehe, hardcore!!)   Hats off to you, John...and from all of TEAM SLO - we wish you and yours a safe trip, and the very best of luck in your new assignment!  Looking forward to your return, bud--take care!!

June 11, 2001- Ding, Ding, Ding!!!  It's that time again, people.  Oh yeah, it's been a while since we've welcomed new members onto this team, and everyone in the Zone knows we're rather particular about who wears our name.  The two gentlemen I'm about to mention  not only  personify the SLO attitude, image, and reputation we've worked so hard to establish, but they're also class acts who will undoubtedly represent this team in the manner we've all come to expect from each other.  So...lets get on with the introductions, shall we?

Ladies and gentlemen, I'm extremely proud to announce Team SLO's newest members...

SLO_PreACheR_MG

SLO_GutterboyMG

Welcome, welcome, welcome, fellas - we're darn glad to have you two aboard!!!  It was a tough, grueling 3-week trial, I know...but it's all behind you now.  No more 3:00 a.m. 10k runs.  No more 100 push-up marathon sessions.  No more being locked in a 2ft X 2ft room with Maniac for hours on end, listening to her rant on and on about how great she is (so she thinks)...nope, none of that.  You've made the cut, so it's all fun and good times now!  Oh and hey, please except the following gift package as a show of our appreciation, and to honor you both as our newest members:

  • Three sets of matching Scooby-Doo T-shirt/underwear (very popular!)

  • An autographed picture of SLO_Flash (sleeping - his best event)

  • A $1.25 gift certificate to any McDonalds in Iceland (good luck with that one!)

  • A brand new car!!! (Matchbox car, with doors/hood that actually open!)

Yeah, don't say it - I know what you're thinking; you're overwhelmed by the extravagance of our gesture, right?.  Not surprising.  Most people breakdown in tears when we present this gift package.  One guy got so emotional we had to call the cops just to keep him from himself (and others)!  At any rate, from all of us - welcome to the team, guys - we are indeed extremely glad to have you aboard!!!

June 8, 2001- JDAK, Christy, and The SuperStar took part in a tourney who's format is...well, radical to say the least.  But you know what - from what I've heard it was an absolute blast, and all the credit (to my knowledge) goes to team ZO!  They're called race-rumble tourneys, and the premise is simply this:  2 person teams whereby 1 girl/guy blocks (rumbles) and the other races.  Yeah, wild stuff, huh?  Not sure about the official particulars for this one, but when it comes right down to it, all that really matters is that this baby was a hit, and DO expect to see more of them!

June 1, 2001 - This is a rather unique entry here, and hopefully it will become a SLO tradition.  Without further ado, here's SLO_Jumper - one of this team's premier racers:

I had a blast this morning racing with SCAT, JDAK, and SS. SCAT been racing almost every morning the last few weeks. You will not recognize him, bud - he really rocks! Never seen a SCAT that fast before, I'll tell ya.  Had a really hard time keeping up with him.  Winning isn't a done deal when he is on track anymore.  If "Racer of the Week" was still a title he'd be the one getting it for sure. I suggest you throw that in N&N section

Btw..raced him a couple days ago and I ended up trashing his truck bad hehe. I've thrown in the pic of what he had to say about it. If you didn't have a famous quote for him, this sounds like a good one to me.

It's a done deal, Jump - and thanks for the suggestion, partner!!  Yes, our "Racer of the Week" days are long gone...but it doesn't mean we can't bring it back!!  I say we take it a step further though, and since this is a monthly setup we got going on here, I think we'll have a "Racer of the Month"  & a "Rumbler of the Month"!!!

More to come on that, but in the mean time, lets all stand and give SCAT-ATTACK, who's one hell of friend, teammate, and racer a HUUUUUUGE round of applause for being SLO's first

    Racer of the Month!!!

June 1, 2001- Not too long ago (last month I think...or was it last year?  Heck, can't remember, but so what) I made mention that in just about every tourney held, if SLO is in it, we'll be around in the end; the semis or the finals.  For the finalč of the recent 4 week long "Back To The Oldies" race tourney series, two of this team's long time, most well respected members (one of them is well respected; the other one is...well, we tolerate him) took their place on the podium tied for 2nd and 3rd place!  Yep, JDAK & SCAT had one heck of a series, and in the end it paid dividends for them.  BIG congrats to you two guys - great, great effort on your parts!!

OLD_AlG ripped this one up, winning the final leg of this series.  Way to go, Big Al!!!
