Mar 24, 2001 - We don't this very often now that we're bursting at the seams personnel wise, but at the same time, it's nice to welcome a fresh new face into our group.  Only thing is we're not doing that today.  SLO's newest addition knows this team just as well as many of the original members having been affiliated with us since Dec of '99.  He's a superb racer with a few "championship belts" hanging up in his mansion (ok, so I threw in the mansion bit for effect) and he happens to be one of my best friends.  Ladies and gentleman, I'm very, very, proud to welcome TEAM SLO'S newest racer/rumbler supreme - SLO_FILA!!!!  A heartfelt welcome to you, bud--darn glad to finally call you my "teammate"! : )  Oh hey, in typical SLO fashion, we've set aside a little gift package for ya as a new member.  You're bound to find out sooner rather than later, so I'll relieve you of the suspense.  Your package includes a slinky (the plastic one--that way you don't cut yourself to ribbons), one set of 12 Power Ranger trading cards, one pair of Superman pajamas (w/matching underwear and a cape!), 1 Box of 53 Crayola Crayons (slightly used, and we lost one of the dang things), and a $2.15 gift certificate to any McDonalds in the Sahara Desert (good luck in finding one).  Yeah, I know - it's more than you ever imagined, but that's just the kind of team this is, bud.  We go all out for our new members.  Again, welcome aboard, SLO_FILA!!!!

Mar 13, 2001 - I have what you'd call your basic "Five Star" note to throw in here, and no, it's not a tourney win or  a new addition to the team.  It's something totally different, and rather unique...but let me tell ya, this particular accomplishment is quite remarkable in it's own right.  The person I'm speaking of is our very own SLO_ObeOne, and he's achieved a distinction in this game with respect to track making that few others have.  As of 4:43 a.m. Central time (hey, I like being accurate, so cut me some slack!) his track, "Castellar Mountains", which in my mind is symbolic of track making at it's very best, leads the way in the "Most Downloaded Track" column at KC Vales. It's been downloaded a wopping 1,478 times, outdistancing the 2nd place contender by more than 200! I haven't the first clue how to go about making a track, however, I often take note of, and have a great deal of appreciation for the subtleties and little nuances that go into making one track standout from the rest.  Obe's effort on this one was nothing short of "masterful", and I think it's safe to say the number of downloads prove that beyond a shadow of a doubt.  Obe, a BIG hats off to you, partner--you earned it bud!

Mar 10, 2001 - There's little doubt that racing is back in MTM 2, and it is indeed a sit for sore eyes.  SLO has been putting in some serious hours when it comes to tourney participation, and no one, I mean NO ONE can refute the fact we've definitely lived up to our team motto of "Winning is Our Business...and Business is Good!"  Today's tourney was on "ZO Crazzy Rally", a very nice piece of work by ZO_World.  As per usual, SLO was right there on the scene, and we most definitely made an impression in a field of high profile, super talented racers.  "Noteble mentions" go out to The Destroyer, and SCAT their strong performances!  I must say, every time I do one of these things whereby SLO puts on a "show"...well, I...I kinda get all misty, you know.  Sike!  Hehehehe.  Way to go you to everyone who participated, and special congrats go out to The SuperStar, Maniac and NANOO for their super performances in this tourney.  Here are the official results:  http://n8.teamslo.com/ZOresults-01.htm

Mar 7, 2001 There's nothing quite like spending a day at the beach with family and friends, watching kids play, enjoying good food, getting absorbed by the hypnotic rhythm of the waves as they curl up to a peak, then crash into the ocean shore...and did I mention Monster Trucks, by chance?  Oh yeah, the scene was "Cocoa Beach", and it sprang up in the form of a spur tourney; 3 laps, 4 rounds.  In attendance for this one were Maniac, NANOO, STORM, N8...and I'm sure a few others, but I'll have to check on that.  In any event, Maniac, who emerged the victor on this one, carved up that track like an electric knife going through a 15lb Butterball Turkey on Thanksgiving Day (hey, I'm trying to make a point here....work with me)!  And NANOO, who finished up in 3rd place, dished out a few racing tutorials (absolutely free of charge, no less) on his way to the finals.   All in all it resulted in an extremely impressive outing for two of this team's top racers, and it's only the beginning of what will be undoubtedly a very successful year for both of them, and consequently for TEAM SLO.  Way to go, Maniac & NANOO!!   OUTSTANDING JOB, you two!  Also, much congrats to SHO_DEATH, who picked up second place.  Great job, bud!!

Mar 3, 2001 - Hmmm...looks like I've been remiss in my duties as team editor, and for such an important occasion, too!  Guess I should get going on this since I'm a few days behind.  In December of 1999, The SuperStar and I bumped into this hotshot kid running wild thru the Zone, and back then he bore the name, "DMS", which to us signified that he was on a team.  In those days we equated teams with snotty, stuck-up people who we loved to beat on.   Hehe--course we now know that's not true; it's the people who aren't on a team that are snotty and stuck up!  Hehe--kidding, actually.  At any rate, his name is Fila, and he's been affiliated with us since December of 1999, our pre-SLO days.  He now wants to be SLO from head to toe (hey, I made a rhyme) as he makes his bid to wear the name of the people he's grown to call his friends.  Please join me in welcoming Fila!  He, like everyone else, will complete a three-week trial, which incidentally began March 3, 2001 and will come to a close on March 24th.    Best of luck to you, Fila!

Mar 3, 2001 - I’m certain everyone has heard the overused catch phrase, “win-win situation”.  Well, for Team SLO I’m going to go one better and tell you it was a “win, win, win” affair.  Since the birth of this team (8 days, 17 minutes shy of a year now), there have been two occasions in which the finals were saturated with SLOsters; tonight marked the third. The event was “The Tournament of Champions Final – Mother Nature’s Revenge", and the track was “Gollypop” set to pitch black for four laps.  Word has it there were some hard-fought rounds leading up to the final run for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd…but that final race was THE race as far as I’m concerned.  The combatants were Fila, N8, Obe and myself…all on that little, itty-bitty track!  Normally I wouldn't have been thrilled about the arrangement, but it was “us”...you know.  Right from the start there was bangin' and bumpin' and truck parts flying everywhere…and I loved every second of it, truly I did!!  Moreover, tonight’s run epitomized the following caption penned by one of this team’s most talented roadsters – SLO_Weeedeee

Da last one is not always da SLOer,

but da winner is always a SLOster!!

You said it, Weeedeee, and very well, I might add, little buddy!!  Here are the particulars:

  • 1stSLO_ObeOne:  HUGE round of applause for this guy—he ran that track to perfection.  Superb job, bud!!

  • 2ndSLO_N8:  Our SuperStar wasn’t feeling well for this one, and the 16 cough drops he took (all at once) didn't help.  I think he had a hang-nail on top of everything else, so that’s why Obe won.

  • 3rdSLO_COPE:  I had a hang-nail too, but it's on my toe, so it didn’t bother me that much.  But my arthritis was in full effect (crinkled fingers), which is why Obe and N8 beat me (chumps).  Oh, and it was kinda dark—I don’t like the dark.  Hehehehe

Last, but certainly not least, Fila rounded up the pack with fourth—he just got lost.  Hehe—great job, Fila!!  Seriously, where this game is concerned, nothing quite compares to being in a final with friends and teammates.  This was a tough, tough tourney, and for it to end such as it did, well…I couldn’t have written a better script.  Congrats to the other finalist for making this an event to remember:  SLO_Weeedeee, SLO_Scat, SLO_Destroyer, OLD_AlG, OLD_Granny, OLD_racenut, ROX_SS.  Special thanks go to our “hostess with the mostest – JeanieTalon, who was assisted by +cyberbitz and +Merlin.  Outstanding tourney you guys – start to finish!

Mar 1, 2001 - Last month I let N8 run down the particulars of a tourney he entered, and now he's back again...reaching for the mike, wanting to broadcast to the world the results of a recent tourney.  If I had known he was going to be a major pain in my neck, I never would've let him do the first one!  At any rate, here he is ladies and gentlemen - SLO's SuperStar

This one was a 2 on 2 Hypercube rumblefest...spur style!  To ensure SLO "raised the roof" off of  Tourney Room 1, I called in the big gun (literally called him from PA to Kansas  hehe), the "nOct3rn4l" one.  At the start of the event, there were 46 participants and 23 teams, which equated to a room jam-packed full of talent. Here's how it went - First Round:  SLO gets a bye, lucky us.  Second Round: SLO vs  SCU (SCU_SailorMoon & SCU_TRUBLSUM) - SLO crushes them.  Third Round: SLO vs what was probably the toughest team in the room (MGD_ULTIMATE & HeadCollector) - SLO makes one of the most amazing comebacks I have seen to date to nip ULT & HC.  This moved us into the finals; 3 teams, 6 players, 1 cube, 15 minutes...and 1 winner!  Teams in the 6-man final were SLO, SND, & XXX.  After a furious battle only one team was left standing...and not by a whole lot either (I think there was about 300 pts separating all 3 teams)!!

 RESULTS

1) SLO_nOct3rn4l & SLO_N8
2) SND_HANNIBAL &SND_UnTouchable
3) XXX_Coon & XXX_SILVERADO

Hehe--the guy not only knows how to work a track/cube/platform...but he does pretty darn well as an "on the scene" reporter, too!  Well hey, after what you've just read, there's not much else I can add!!  However...on behalf of the entire team (the other 23 members), I will throw in a HUGE congrats to our Dynamic Duo - nOct & N8!!! Also, great job teams SND and XXX - you guys put on one heck of a show!

NOTE:  This tourney actually took place February 28, 2001.  I chose to place it on this page in light of the significance of the event since February's NOTES/NEWS are now archived.
