May 24, 2001 - It's been quite some time since I've made an entry like this one, and I must say, it's extremely nice to be able to put this on our team page.  No stalling, no beating around the bush, no hesitating, no delaying, no hedging, no putting it off 'til later, no...hehehe, all right, all right!!  SLOsters and SLOettes...it gives me great, great, great, great, great, great (really) great, pleasure to introduce two new prospects who hope to don the name SLO and join what is undoubtedly the best team in the Zone!

  • __GutterboyMG__ - No, he doesn't live in the gutter.  Geez, the nerve of of some people making crazy assumptions just because of the guy's name.   Besides, he lives in a sewer, and there's a HUGE difference!!  Trial completion date: 11 June, 2001

  • __Preacher_MG_ - He's GB's younger brother, and a super nice, exceptionally talented kid.  He's never tried to preach to me, so I'm not sure about the origin of his name.  Furthermore, I just wouldn't feel right slamming a guy with a name like "Preacher", ya know?  Hehehe  Trial completion date: 11 June, 2001

Team SLO wishes you both the very best of luck in your quest to become full time employees (with all the bennies, which I'll discuss if in fact you do become SLOsters)  Good luck, fellas!!!

May 20, 2001 - Memories...where would be without 'em?  Hey, who cares!  All I know is two of the Zone's finest rumblers were at it again; out there "nOc-in" (pun intended) heads with the big dogs.  Oh yeah, it was nOct3rn4l and The SuperStar who entered yet ANOTHER 2 vs 2 tourney (a la the spur variety) on The Cube, and they came away with an impressive 3rd place finish!!  You know, it's not winning every tourney you enter that makes you great.  In fact, that would probably come under the category of superhuman.  In this guy's most humble opinion, it's the number of trips you make to the podium that establishes one's (or in this case, two) greatness.  Believe you me, they've amassed quite a collection of tourney wins, but their consistency is what make these two cats among the best out there - no doubt!  There--pretty sure I said everything they told me to say, so fess up boys; give me my $20.00 bucks!!  Hehe--much congrats to you two guys - fantastic tourney!!

By the by, worth noting is nOct3rn4l is now "SLO_nOct3rn4l"!!  Welcome home, partner.  Only thing I'm still pissed about is your name; I gotta tussle with trying to remember how it's spelled again!!

The guys from XXX were definitely in full effect, picking up first and second place!  Congrats go out to TAKEuOUT/Coon & SILVERADO/ALiEN for a super performance!!

May 18, 2001 - Step into a room full of SLO and in no time at all you'll acquire a very good sense of the many personalities that reside within the team.  For example:

  • JDAK - loves to race, but also loves to run people into solid objects, and then laughs...loudly

  • NANOO - superb racer, hates rumbles...and that's a good thing cause he sucks at it.

  • FLASH - mouthy, never heard of the word "modest" - undoubtedly destined to have a lot of trash around him in his 2nd life - he talks enough of it.

  • ObeOne - Second-rate Star Wars character wannabe who's still looking for "The Force".  Oh, he kinda dabbles in track making.

  • Arctic - darn good rumbler (not really), refuses to race on tracks with snow; whines about it being too cold (sissy), talks much trash.

The list of "characters" (weirdoes) certainly goes on, but one guy that definitely sticks out from the crowd is SLO_SCAT.  Why?  Because he's the only one not running off at the mouth, talking all sorts of "monkey" about what tree he's going to run so and so into, or how great he is or how cute he is cause he got new barrettes for his hair (Fila).  He's without question THE coolest cat on the team--no one would refute that, but he's also one hell of a racer!!  It was a continuation of the "Back To The Oldies" tournament series, and the track was "VALLEY OF THE KINGS".  In attendance was NANOO, N8, Jumper, JDAK, Maniac & SCAT.  This was probably one of the most mentally grueling tournament tracks I've ever seen, and it certainly took its toll on some of our premier racers.  However...rising above it all, pulling out all the stops to put on a racing clinic was SCAT-ATTACK!!  In a four racer final, our very own SCAT emerged as a 3rd place finisher!!!  I recall, having to tell this guy way back when, long before we were ever SLO, "SCAT, when you get to a right turn...TURN THE FREAKIN TRUCK, MAN!!!  Hehehe - awesome job, bud...awesome!!!  How bout a HUGE round of applause for my main man, SCAT!!!

First/second place honors went to MTF_HotShot & MTM DavDemBlues.  Our team bud OLD_AlG picked up fourth place.  Way to go, Al!!  Great tourney bud!!

  ATTENTION PLEASE

May 11, 2001 - Few things compare to the elation of a tourney win, that "rush" (as a good friend of mine, likes to say) is...well, it transcends any words I can put on this page; you just have to live it.  One of the two SLOsters I'm going to highlight here did just that - she felt the incredible high that one experiences after such a grand accomplishment.  The other person has kinda made a home in the winner's circle, so we'll do him last!  Hehehe

  • I've referred to her as a "Master Truck Dissembler" and a "Truck Breaker-Upper Extraordinaire", and in the our Battle of the Sexes rumble event she's affectionately known as "Crusty".  Hehe -  regardless of what name or phrase I throw at her, two things remain constant:  as a friend/teammate/team member, she's absolutely, positively great--irreplaceable.  The other thing is she has this nasty little habit of leaving truck parts scattered about after about 10 minutes on the cube...with anyone!  Which brings me to the focus of this little piece here.  She and The SuperStar stepped onto a battlefield full of heavy hitters - XXX, SYR, FIRE, and more.  It was a 2 on 2 slug-o-rama on the cube, and after it was all said and done, there's no doubt in my mind several of these "gentlemen" now know what power is...and who controls it!!  Christy, I simply cannot describe how happy I am for you, and I'm sure my sentiment is indicative of what ALL of TEAM SLO feels.  You've always been a class act (teach N8 some manners, ok?), so believe me, it is my sincere pleasure to highlight you on our NOTES & NEWS page.

WAY TO GO, CHRISTY!!

The official results are as follows:

NOTE: Her chauffer-driven limo is scheduled arrive at SLO Headquarters in about 10 min.  There will be a brief session set aside for photos and autographs.  Oh, and sorry guys - she's spoken for. J

May 10/11, 2001 - This one is certainly deserving of the old Five Alarm Award here.  Yep, you guessed it - The SuperStar is at it again.  You'd think I'd get tired of writing about this guy...and I do, but he seems to have a knack for making headlines!!  He's pulled "a first" here, which explains the two dates.  It's not enough that he wins tourneys...and regularly, but this time he's done it back-to-back!!  Yep, not only did he capture first place honors with Christy (as you just read), he and nOct3rn4l combined forces to garner the number one spot in tourney that took place on the 10th!!  Yep, it was like old times for these two as they summoned upon the surgeon-like skill, teamwork, and...wait--N8 just informed me that he'd like to do "the particulars" for this one, so here he is:

Just got my new DSL connection hooked up, got online, setup the Zone software all over again and went into Scenic Route.   It was at this time I noticed that +BlackOut_FX had announced  a spur 2 on 2 Hypercube tournament was about to begin.  I sat and thought for a minute, thinking, "nah, I'll suck on a brand new connection".  After tellin myself I wasn't gonna do it, I zm'd my "partner of choice" to see if he was available.  Not only was he available, but judging by his reaction, there seemed to be nothing else in the world he'd like better to do than toss some monster trucks with me.  When you get partnered up with a guy like this, it's by no means a definite win, but you know people will gulp when they see they're assigned to play you and "this" particular partner in any round; that partner being none other than SLO's former "nOct3rn4l" one.  I can't be sure who we played in which rounds but I know a few of the folks we defeated: lets see...OGL_Notorious & OGL  _WhosYoDaddy,  SYR_DUST_U &  SYR_SPOONMAN, SYR_F150 (aka SYR_SNAKE aka  SYR_SENNA...etc, etc  lol) & SYR_FOO (FOO's computer locked which ended a game that was in SYR's favor at the time), and SCU_THESNAKE & SCU_MoRpHeUs_.

Final results:

****** 1) SLO_N8 & nOct3rn4l ******

2) SCU_THESNAKE & SCU_MoRpHeUs_
 3) ZOtm_World & ZO_2wheel

Yeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaaw, we done it again!!  Hehe.  BIG thanks to my bud/former teammate, nOct!!!  I had a blast man - thx for making it fun!"

Hehe--Not bad at all, SuperStar!  Sheesh, and they say I talk a lot!!  Special congrats to you and nOct for a job extreeeeeeeemely well done.  But also, I tip my wheel to Teams SCU and ZO for their impressive finishes!!

May 6, 2001 - Hehe, on the members section of my page (Cope's Corner), I kinda slammed The FLASH, saying how his name has ALWAYS been too big for his ability.  Well, the truth of the matter is the comments on that portion of my page were made in good natured fun.  Moreover, everyone knows if he's racing, he'll be right there in the mix, looking to posture himself for a podium position...which is exactly what he did!!  My man, FLASH went into the tourney on the ONaN track, "Richmond International Raceway" and served notice that he's back on the scene.  He emerged with a very impressive 3rd Place finish!!  Welcome back FLASH - everyone knows this is your world, partner; we just live here!  Finishing up as numero uno was Cyberbitz2K1, and taking 2nd place honors was my good friend, "Big Al" (OLD_AlG)!  HUGE congrats to you guys---outstanding performance!!

May 4, 2001 - Winning.  Doing so typically generates incredible highs, regardless of what form it comes in.  Sporting events, cards, board games, marbles...oh, and especially racing and rumbling monster trucks!    Although we didn't capture "The Big One", for the second segment of the "Back To The Oldies" racing series, we were there--right in the thick of things, just as we always are.  This time around it was 3 laps on "Zoon Subway", and with 3 trucks on that track per heat, everyone knew this one was going to be a wild one...and it was!! Taking it all was ROX_Adam0013 (again!), so congrats to you, bud.  As for the EIGHT SLOsters who came out in support of this one, we have nothing to hang our heads about.  We can't win em all, and sometimes we'll fail miserably, but that's what makes it all worthwhile...and in fact, it can make the successes even more gratifying.  Here are the standings after two weeks:  RESULTS   Oh hey, and do check out the team points at the bottom.  Uh huh...that's what I'm talking about!!  Go Team SLO!!!

NOTE:  My very good friend, LS6_Angi entered this one, and it was her first tourney.  It goes without say that I'm very proud of her performance (girlfriend cranked out a win and a couple of 2nd place finishes).  But to further demonstrate my point about the kind of "high" a win can generate, this was her reaction after running the first heat in that tourney and emerging the victor:

Yeah...we know all about that feeling, don't we Team SLO!  Way to go, Angi!!  : )

May 1, 2001 - Ok everyone, for all intensive purposes we took last month off, which isn't necessarily a bad thing...not at all.  But if you would please, bare with me for a moment while I do the "retro thing" and recognize a few SLOsters who stood in the limelight!

  • Nanoo/Maniac/Scat - the three musketeers here served notice last month that although SLO was taking some downtime from ripping up the Zone, we were still a force to be reckoned with.  In last month's ZO endorsed tourney, Nanoo and Maniac turned in their typical topnotch performances, resulting in 2nd and 3rd place finishes respectively.  Although Scat didn't place in this one, he's been to the podium before, and we all know this "warrior" has established himself as contender in any tourney.  It doesn't change the fact that each time he steps on a track he throws in a gusty performance.  This was no different. Way to go you three!!

  • NIRto_Jeanie is at it again, and this time I believe she's struck gold!  She's bringing back "Racing to the Oldies" (so to speak), and she started things off with a bang on the classic track, Beerrun.  It took place on April 27, and it was reportedly one of the best run, well organized, hard-fought tourneys of recent memory, and I have to think it'll only get better!  Way to go, Girlfriend--and thanks once again for bringing racing back to MTM 2!!!

Moving on to the particulars, I'm going to approximate that in at least 95% of the tourneys we enter, we make some sort of headline.  That's a pretty amazing stat, and believe me, it's fairly accurate.  For this one, The SuperStar (N8), JDAK, SCAT, JUMP, and that raging Maniac entered the fray, along with numerous other topnotch racers.  In the end, JUMP, N8, along with ROX_Adam0013 and our good friend, OLD_AlG were pitted against one another in the final.  Hehe--I have to say, with that many racers on a track of that size, the word "RUMBLE" kinda comes to mind, ya know!  One participant, who shall not be named (N8), said people were kicking, scratching, elbowing...all in an effort to get to the finish line.  Oh, he also said someone (JUMP) pushed him...and he fell down.  Well, regardless - this was another great showing for SLO, and since this is an ongoing series promising great racing on superb tracks, look for a SLO invasion this next time around!
